The MLS Next Under-15 age group experienced a shift a the beginning of this season. Opposed to years past, the U15 has bee see was a premier age group. From compete gin in Generation Cup to boasting all the top academy players in the younger age groups. That has now shifted to the U16 level, but that is not to say that the U15 age group does not have some of the top talent in the country. There will still be a lot of MLS academies competing at this level despite not every club having a U15 team anymore. We will see the likes of La Galaxy, Columbus Crew, and Philadelphia Union battle it out at the U15 level. AS for the regular season, it was largely headlined by the San Jose Earthquakes, FC Cincinnati, and STL City who come in the top three of our pre-MLS Next Cup power rankings. These are our favorites entering the tournament. Among them there are a good amount of MLS Next academies in the competition as well. Barca Residency Academy will post a strong squad as well as BW Gottschee. It will be be interesting to see these squads battle it out in Nashville.

Under-16 Field For MLS Next Cup

The MLS Next Cup U16 bracket is officially set, and some big names and squads will head down to Nashville to compete for the crown. Real Salt Lake will be one of the teams to watch out for as they just dominated the U16 Generation Adidas Cup. This included a 4-0 victory in the final. Another team to watch out for will be the LA Galaxy who had a strong showing themselves in the Generation Adidas Cup. Some other top teams to watch out for in this age group will be the Chicago Fire who won it all last year at the U15 level. If they Fire have returnees who played a key role in the last years tournament like Darris Hyte and Robert Turdean could be wit the U19 team for this tournament, so that will prove to be an interesting dynamic as well. Barca Residency Academy will be a squad to watch as well. Carson Start will likely be playing with this group two years up. He is one of if not the top 2011 in the country, and will more than likely play a key role for Barca’s U16s. Atlanta Unit4d will be another interesting team to watch for. They made it to the semifinals in last year’s tournament, and have one of the best academies in the country. They often send multiple players to USYNT camps, and they also have dynamic players who can change the game at any moment with the likes of Ivory Covington and Ignacio Suarez playing in attacking positions.
