MLS Next U15 Power Rankings and Academy Products Join The First Team

The U15 Spring season is beginning to heat up, and with that, we take a look at the top ten teams in the county heading into the rest of the season. Teams stretch form across the country, and many of these squads will compete at Generation adidas Cup.

1. Chicago Fire

The Chicago Fire U15s are proving to be one of the best U15 squads in recent memory. The Fire have been remarkable, and currently hold a 16-1 across Flex and League competitions. The Fire were also the only U15 academy squad to go 3-0 at MLS Next Fest. Chicago has arguably the best 2010 player in the country in Robert Turdan, and are heavy favorites for GA Cup.

2. New York Red Bulls

Do not let the U15 New York Red Bulls record fool you as they are still one of the top teams in the country. The Red Bulls boast five players who have already made their USYNT debut, have just added highly rated prospect Caleb Simmons. The Red Bulls have already had many players make their debut wit the U17 side this season, proving this group’s depth.

3. Columbus Crew

Another team with top talent in the midwest is the Columbus Crew 2009 squad. The Crew, like the Red Bulls, have loads of players 2009 already playing with the U17s. Rhys Presthus is among them. The central defensive midfielder has proved to be a top talent in this class. The rest of the squad is incredibly talented as well. Do not be surprised if this group makes a run for multiple trophies this year,

4. Los Angeles Football Club

LAFC slots in at number four on our top ten Under-15 squads. LAFC is tearing up the Southwest division of Flex with 37 points with a 12-2-1 record. The squad is currently ahead by 10 points in arguably the hardest division in the country. LAFC’s main man has been striker Darian Rus, and they also have USYNT center back Tyson Espy leading them from the back.

5. FC Dallas

These next two are very close as they both boast incredible squads who have tore up MLS Next this year. Jordyn Eason leads the line for this squad. The highly rated winger was previously apart of LAFC’s academy. Steel Cook is a midfield maestro for the squad, and he is also apart of the USYNT system. One cannot forget about the likes of Diego Echevarria and Caleb Wegman.

6. Houston Dynamo

The Houston Dynamo have proved to be one of the shocks in the U15 MLS Next season. The Dynamo are not usually noted for youth development, but this U15 squad is different. Head Coach Jeremy Hurdle has proved to be instrumental in developing this squad into a championship contender. At the moment, the are atop of the U15 central (south) division.

7. Philadelphia Union

The Philadelphia Union U15s have the potential to move a lot higher up this list in the coming months. Philadelphia Union and talent production go hand and hand. The squad has put together some incredible performances this year especially when they took down both La Galaxy and Minnesota United at MLS Next Fest.

8. Atlanta United

Atlanta United has fallen a bit from their number one throne after some shaky performances against national competition.Atlanta remains one of the better teams in the league as they are a perfect 6/6 in their MLS Flex group. Atlanta has Ethan Degny who is among the top prospects among the country. Degny has already made his debut with the U17s.

9. FC Cincinnati

Their is definitely a case for Fc Cincinnati to be a lot higher up on this list. Cincinnati has been a top squad this season in one of the hardest divisions. They sit third in the MLS Next League with impressive results against Houston Dynamo and Sporting KC. Fc Cincinnati also sits second in their Flex division.

10. Portland Timbers

The Portland Timbers have been on an absolute tear since the signing of new first team head coach Phil Neville. The Timbers have a perfect record in the Spring season including big wins against the likes of La Galaxy, Seattle Sounders, and Real Salt Lake.
