What Is Happening At MLS Next Fest?
A look at some of the top matches, players, and a look at the teams competing in the Generation adidas Cup qualifiers.
The MLS NEXT Fest tournament is already half over, so let’s take a look at how things are shaping up in Southern California. We have attended some great matches over the past couple of days.
The New York Red Bulls defeated La Galaxy in a highly anticipated U16 matchup in the Pro-pathway division. USYNT international Paul Sokoloff opened up the scoring first with a beautiful strike to put the Red Bulls up 1-0 over the Galaxy. Another USYNT international bagged for the Red Bulls on the brink of halftime. Two more goals followed as the Red Bulls cruised to a 4-0 victory against one of the top academies for the wet coast. Another U16 match featured LAFC take on Orlando City. In a much more completive fixture, Andrew Sorto bagged the first for the California club putting them up 1-0. A 50 minute goal drought followed before Brady Kendall scored for Orlando City tying the game up at 1-1. Sorto answered again completing his brace only five minutes later. Another goal for LAFC followed tens minutes after that helping them claim a 3-2 victory.
The Philadelphia Union U18s boast possibly the most future professional players out of any team in the country. Stars like Neil Pierre, Kellan LeBlanc, Anisse Saidi, Diego Rocio, and Jamir Johnson have all already featured for their second team. A tight battle between the powerhouse and upcoming squad FC Cincinnati resulted in a 0-0 draw on day one of matches. Philadelphia Union came back in a big way on day two as the found themselves causing to a 3-1 victory of Real Salt Lake U18s. Diego Rocio opened the scoring in that game followed by goals from Anisse Saidi and Kellan LeBlanc to secure the victory for the Navy and Gold.
Ga Cup Qualifiers

The Generation Adidas Cup qualifiers are taking place this weekend as well. This is between independent club teams who are vying to qualify for the prestigious tournament in early April. The fun begun with a round of 16 at the U19 age groups. Teams have played a shocking four games in a row, and this has lead us all the way to the final. From the midwest, Sockers FC will take on Florida squad, Jacksonville FC in the U19 champions. The U16 bracket has already kicked off as well, and they are now in the quarterfinal stage of there competition.
